About Negar

My piano journey started at four, in the lively world of my mother's music school. Early on, the music felt like both a friend and a challenge, blending seamlessly with my childhood play but also demanding the discipline of a school subject. I grew up caught between the strictness of classical training and the freedom I yearned for in music, making practice feel more like a chore than a joy.

The real struggle was with the pressures of performance—fighting stage fright, memorizing pieces, and mastering fast passages. It felt like battling shadows, each performance a test of memory and speed I often feared I'd fail.

College was a turning point. Determined to find my path, I delved into the depths of music beyond the notes on the page. I pieced together a technique for tension-free playing from the wisdom of various teachers, but the ghost of memorization still haunted me. Pushing through, I explored every angle, from psychology to physiology, seeking a way to make music truly mine.

This quest transformed not just my playing but my teaching philosophy. I learned that true musicianship isn't just about playing notes perfectly but about finding joy in every challenge, creativity in every practice session, and personal growth through music. Now, I aim to guide my students on a similar journey, helping them discover their own creative voice and the joy of overcoming musical challenges.

I see myself responsible for actively growing my knowledge and staying loyal to objectivity in teaching. Throughout my musical experience, I have been active as a composer and explored other fields of music including conducting and other instruments such as clarinet, to understand music deeper. I am currently a teaching assistant in music theory at Temple University while studying for my master's in music technology to learn the essence of sound.
