About Beverly

I have been teaching sewing since 1972, then I entered the garment industry as a pattern maker (long before computers). I focused on intimate apparel because it was an exciting field to be involved with. I started a bra supply company which is still the largest in the world of its kind. I created a line of patterns for intimate apparel including bras, panties, swimwear, and corsets specifically for the home sewist. I am also the author of 10 books on all aspects of Intimate apparel, including my best known works: The Bra-makers Manual Vol 1 & 2. I have retired from owning my store which I sold in 2022, but I am still designing patterns and writing books. I have created 4 new patterns and written 3 new books! After 40 years, I am STILL excited by Intimate Apparel, its design and construction!

About the lesson

The 30 minute free lesson can be for us to determine what you know already and what you want to learn in our time ahead.

A typical lesson with me, can then be one to two hours depending on what you want to learn and the pace at which you absorb the information.

If you already know some of the individual topics, we can skip those so I am teaching exactly what you want to learn.

Please note - this is NOT a learn-to-sew class but rather, an intermediate to advanced classes to learn to draft a bra from your own measurements. You will then make a test fitting bra using both video and written instruction, with face-to-face help as needed. Learn as little or as much as you want, privately with a dedicated instructor.

Once that bra is fit to perfection, you can change the style to virtually anything you can dream up. Start collecting those inspiration photos and start today!

With over 40 years of experience in the bra-making industry but catering to the enthusiastic home sewist, Beverly teaches by video, illustrations and the written word.

Beverly offers Bra-making Construction on the Craftsy video platform, which is a great way to learn the basics of bra construction.

This first lesson offered with Beverly will allow you to get to know each other and clearly specify your needs for your next lessons.

Details

Learn as much or as little as you want. We can pack in lots in our time together. For example, if you already 'sort of" know how to sew a bra but really need help in the fitting, we can start with that.

Then, we can move on to to other details you want to learn. When it comes to teaching intimate apparel, I am knowledgeable about virtually all aspects.

The one way I am not up to speed is the technical aspects of the Industry. I use Cameo software for pattern drafting for patterns I sell, but for myself, I draft by hand. I left the Industry when computers for manufacturing really took over. My strengths are for the bra-making home sewist and those in a custom bra-making business (or want to be).
