About Elise

I am a mature age student who has returned to studying Japanese after taking a break from the language. I am originally from Sydney but have lived in Canberra and studied abroad in Fukuoka prefecture. I decided to start studying Japanese in year 4 as several of my relatives either have lived or are living in Japan. My favorite thing about Japan is the culture and the people - Japan has a long history but is also very technologically advanced; and despite what you might think - Japanese culture is not just one thing but varies a lot by region/prefecture! I also enjoy reading classic Japanese novels like Sei Shonagon's Pillow Book and the works of Natsume Soseki and learning about various periods of the country's history. My other favorite things include coffee, cats, collecting cute stationery and writing my own stories in both languages. My goal after graduation is to teach English in Japan via either the JET program or eikaiwa.

エリースと申します。数年間休んだのに、現在社会人学生として日本語の学位のために勉強しています。シドニー出身で、キャンベラにも住んだ事があって、福岡の留学経験もあります。親戚に、日本に住んでいる人や住んだ事ある人がいるため、小学校４年生の頃、日本語を勉強すると決めました。日本の何が好きかと言うと、長い歴も早く進化している技術もある文化と、色々な日本の人と話す事が魅力的に感じます。読書好きで「枕草子」や、夏目漱石の作品などを読む事が趣味です。コーヒー、猫、可愛い文房具も好きで、将来の夢はJETや英会話で、日本に引っ越して英語を教える事です。

About the lesson

With 20 years of language study under my belt, I hope to make learning Japanese as fun as possible for all ages with focus on not just textbook grammar and kanji but also real-world conversation practice and materials based on traditional and modern Japanese culture. I have studied abroad in Fukuoka, am currently finishing off my bachelor's degree in Japanese and have a passion for the culture and language. My goal after graduation is to teach English in Japan through the JET program. I am able to help with HSC Japanese (Beginners and Continuers) as well as university coursework at the beginner/intermediate level. I am also qualified in education support and work well with primary school students interested in picking up a new language.

I am based in the Parramatta area but am available for online/remote lessons as well. Each session will last an hour and I will be able to work with you on various skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
