The Japanese language and Japanese culture really helped me a lot in my life. When I was learning Japanese, my Japanese teachers were very strict with students, but I think I learned the most during that period of my life. I have used the Japanese language to develop my career and enjoy Japanese entertainment. I also apply the Japanese mindset to my daily life. The teachers inspired me to help other students achieve what they had helped me to achieve.
I believe students learn the best when they know they can really use what they have learnt in the lessons for real world situations. Last month, a student said she wants to go to Japan to travel after COVID. I simulated some common scenarios she will have when traveling around Japan to practice speaking and listening. And I reminded her to be aware of some cultural differences and good manners to use when communicating with Japanese people. This style of teaching and lesson planning makes students excited to learn.
I also think a lot about how to help students to deal with their weaknesses when studying Japanese. I truly believe that my students can see great improvement when they study Japanese with me.
