About John

I'm John! I'm a teacher based in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area with 3 years of full-time classroom experience (primarily Grades 5 and 6, with hands-on experience across JK through Grade 8) and 3 years of tutoring on top of that. These days I work as a supply teacher, which means I'm constantly adapting to new classrooms, personalities, and learning styles.

I specialize in Language Arts and Math for grades 4–9, using real-world math examples, math games, engaging writing prompts, and phonics-based reading strategies to make lessons stick. I'm patient, upbeat, and get along easily with pretty much everyone. My goal is for students to actually look forward to our sessions, not dread them.

Outside the classroom, I'm just as curious and hands-on in my own life, which I think keeps my teaching fresh and relatable rather than by-the-book. If you're looking for a tutor who's reliable, easy to talk to, and genuinely invested in your child's progress, I'd love to help!

About the lesson

I bring 3 years of classroom teaching and 3 years of tutoring experience to every session, working with students in grades 4 through 9 in Language Arts and Math. I make lessons stick by connecting to real life: Real-world math problems instead of worksheets, engaging writing prompts, hands-on math games, and phonics-based strategies for stronger reading. I get along easily with kids of all personalities and learning styles, and I'm known for being someone students actually look forward to seeing. Let's make learning feel less like a chore and more like progress!
