About India

I’m a patient and friendly tutor, with a calm approach and good sense of humour. I’ve always had an interest in the humanities, specifically English, and I feel that the analytical side of my brain lends itself well to History of Art. I studied English Literature, Classical Civilisation, and History of Art at A Level, receiving mostly 100%’s throughout all subjects for both 2 years; my most common mark in History of Art was 100%, and I was the only person in my class to receive an A*.

I believe I have an ability for explaining complex things in a simple and understandable manner, which I found to be one of the most valuable qualities in my teachers, especially for complex philosophical and artistic theories.

I am planning on being a professor when I am older, and so tutoring and helping people is something I find very rewarding.

About the lesson

I am new to tutoring but interested in helping students learn History of Art, which I am taking further alongside my English degree for two years, and planning to finish after completing my time at Edinburgh.

History of Art was my most time consuming A Level as I would spend a lot of time researching, and as a result I have a lot of good resources and a backlog of knowledge spanning from prehistoric art to contemporary, with a focus on Romanticism, Modernism and Post-Modernism (1800-2015).

After spending a lot of time mentoring fellow students (and occasionally filling in for my teachers in college when they were absent) I am comfortable and reasonably experienced with helping other A Level students in expanding their potential and improving existing skills. Taking HOA at university has also provided me with a confidence of expression which I think would be valuable for A Level students.

My lessons would be catered to the student themselves, promoting independence and providing support with schoolwork and exam preparation.

For me to have the best impact on performance, having the student provide specific homework/ topics/ books/ exam questions that they need guidance with would be helpful. Once I get a gauge for the student‘s ability, I would be happy to start setting personal essay questions and tasks.

I am familiar with the A Level process having recently completed them, and I hope this experience would be useful for me to better empathise with students and be aware of specific requirements.

India really helped me with my English GCSE coursework! Once I had written a rough draft, India improved some of the vocab and sentence structure, ensuring it flowed well and was sophisticated enough.
