About Riya

Hi, I'm Riya, a second year medical student at the University of Leeds. Having to take a gap year due to no medicine offers in my final year of school led me to spend a lot of time reflecting on my application. I went from getting 2 interviews and no offers in my first year to getting 4 interviews and 3 offers in my second. I believed my gap year gave me a lot of experience in gaining necessary skills for a successful medicine application and playing to my strengths - this is advice I am keen to pass on to aspiring medics. I offer a friendly and person-based approach to tutoring. Our first session will involve getting to know the tutee, what their goals are for their application, any past experience and any specifics they would like to work on. Each application is individual and unique - I believe that recognising strengths and utilising them is key, and this is what I aim to bring forward into lessons.

About the lesson

Achieved top 4% of UCAT takers in 2022. Offering 1 hour lessons to prepare, involving looking at exam questions, focusing on areas of priority and offering advice on exam technique and tricks to achieve the highest possible score. I have sat the UCAT twice - having gone through the medical application cycle twice, I have gained experience and invaluable knowledge of how to boost chances of gaining an interview/offer. I also offer personal statement advice and interview preparation - for MMI and panel.
