About Electra

Current 3rd-year Biomedical Engineering student at Florida Institute of Technology with a 4.0 GPA and a 1540 SAT score (math: 790, reading/writing: 760) on my first SAT attempt. I graduated from Port St. Lucie High School in Florida as valedictorian with a 6.07 weighted GPA. Academics have always been my passion, and I plan to pursue a career as a professor in biomedical engineering or something related.

My math background includes pre-calculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, and differential equations. I have both passed these classes with an A and tutored in these subjects. I have also earned an A in Statistics and Probability.

Outside of tutoring, I am participating in a paid research internship at my university called SIDDIS. The internship is for flood inundation mapping with RDN Neural Networks. I am responsible for running hyper-parameter searches and training models. I also developed a baseline code for L1 and L2 distance rankings based on topographical features.

I am also extremely patient and work well with younger students. Before the COVID-19 shutdown, I taught gymnastics to secondary-school-aged children. This was where I first discovered my passion for teaching.

About the lesson

Hi, my name is Electra. I am a 3rd-year level Biomedical Engineering student at Florida Institute of Technology with a 4.0 GPA and over 2 years of experience tutoring peers for SAT math, and calculus up to differential equations.

Unlike most teachers and textbooks, I do not like to just throw equations at students to memorize. I try connecting math to something conceptually real and spend the necessary time to show students the full picture of mathematics (with actual drawings and pictures). Many mathematic equations are interconnected, making more complex equations easier to understand.

I start my sessions by evaluating the student's current understanding of the subject and then focusing on the weak points. I believe that practice makes perfect, so expect to solve lots of problems should you choose me. First, I will explain and outline the mathematical method/idea and then have the student solve problems, aiding them until I am confident they can do it on their own. If a student wants to succeed, they will also need to practice outside of the sessions. I try to assign minimal work that aligns with homework (should there be homework), as I understand the life of a busy student.

My lessons are online via zoom or discord. I tutor SAT math, or advanced math classes ranging from pre-calculus to differential equations. However, I am open to other subjects upon request.
