About Pauline
In my earlier career I worked as a professional accountant KPMG) and then as an economist (Bank of England). I have been teaching Economics and Accounting one-to-one or in small groups for more than 20 years. I have worked mainly with `A` level and undergraduate students though have also supported several students taking professional exams. As well as extensive experience of giving private tuition I have also worked as a classroom teacher on undergraduate courses at LSE and Kings College, and as an A level supply teacher at St Martins School, Solihull.
I now focus on providing private tuition, as I find being able to support a wide range of students with different learning needs is particularly rewarding.

I work with all levels of students, some who are aiming for top grades and others who just want to make sure that they do the best that they can. I don't use a "one size fits all approach", but adapt my tutoring to suit each individual student. So I always start with assessing their knowledge and understanding of the subject, as well as discussing what support they feel they need and how they want how lessons to run. For example, some lessons are very interactive with lots of discussion, others are based around doing question practice. I am also able to draw on my working experience to give a real-life dimension.
I work with students doing AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC A level courses. Familiarity with the A level curriculum and differences between exam boards was essential to my role when I was a judge for the Bank of England's Target 2.0 Schools Challenge, and I always keep up to date with any changes.
I believe that the success of personal tutoring relies heavily on tutor-tutee rapport, so it is important for me to achieve a positive relationship with my students and make their lessons interesting and enjoyable. I have a friendly supportive approach, aiming to be personable but professional at all times.
My key objective is to ensure that I am providing the support that the individual student needs, including helping to build up and extend their knowledge and understanding, boosting their confidence and preparing effectively for exams or other assessments.
