About Alistair
- What kind of experience do you have?
I began studying piano at the age of 7 and specialised in performance during my undergraduate degree in Edinburgh. I have performed both as a soloist and with orchestras.
I have been teaching both adults and children for around 10 years and tailor my lessons around each individual student. As well as working on the ABRSM syllabus, I include theory, improvisation and harmony in my lessons.
Alongside my private students, I spent some time teaching adults in a Music In The Community project in Edinburgh, using music as part of the rehabilitation process with prison inmates. I have also run songwriting workshops in London for teens.
I currently run Two Bees Music School with my wife, Hannah Cahill, which organises regular student concerts as well as other events throughout the year. More information can be found on my website.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I am in the process of renewing this.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Edinburgh University Faculty of Music 2002-2006, BMus (Hons) under Peter Evans, John Kitchen and Nigel Osborne.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
