About Laraine

Hi there,
I am an individual who considers myself a 'lifelong learner', so I have no doubt I will continue to expand on my understandings using a range of pedagogical gurus. I usually start with Bloom, then move to some more challenging concepts. I am someone who likes to dip my toe into new things. I started as a Psychiatric Nurse , working within the Government system, with clients who were highly psychotic. A few clients suffered traumatic neurological disorders, others had a family history of Schizophrenia and Bi-Polar Disease.. I guess that has led me to my fascination on 'How We Learn?'. I have lived and travelled and taught (many years IB - 10 years and now just over 10 years in Aussie Curriculum.) I had a period whereby I moved into General Nursing and studied anatomy and physiology, and disease. Interesting, but did not grab me as much as Neuroscience, although loved the text books.. I love music, MOST, Funk, Blues, Garage, Grime, 90's Hip Hop - 90's (the best), Motown, pop..... but I do not like Techno-House ,or Metal. I keep fit, read books (sometimes cheesy) sometimes complicated books and amazing discoveries they have made in Neuroscience. I like animals. I'm Aussie so I live on the coast. I have a half-written a book about 'something?' I like yoga, but am pathetic. When I come back, I want to come back as a Tibetan Monk, because I want to know what makes them so happy. I am a bit of a perfectionist and a procrastinator. They don't work so well together. I am a happy person, life is good. I will not let you down, and do not fear me, as I no longer wear my super-power cape. It was starting to embarrass my husband. I am a committed teacher, who is doing her own studies on the side. I have no fear of Kryptonite at all, if that means anything. Trust me. Laraine

This is, how connections in your learning are made between your cognitive (mind), affective (mood), social and cultural development of you as a learner, and how my teaching best adapts to your learning style. My strengths include both Australian Curriculum and International Baccalaureate - English Literature, English. Theory of Knowledge, Psychology, Sociology, Middle School English and EALD. I am skilled in showing ways to improve reading comprehension, write with clarity and creativity and more. My students have always excelled in and out of school, (such as writing competitions/Public Speaking). I provide valuable personal educational materials.
