About Savannah
I am currently in my 8th year of teaching and have been with the Colton Joint Unified School District since Fall 2018. In the three years prior, I taught at risk youth transitioning from juvie into group homes through a county program housed at University of Redlands, "Student Success Academy." I am in my 5th year of teaching at Washington High School in Colton: the district's alternative site for 9th and 10th graders. I am the High School Opportunity Math Teacher and I teach Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 1 Support; a position that commands much patience. I set out to combat math anxiety and build students' confidence in the math classroom. I became a math teacher in spite of being a "math person," which research proves there is no such thing. I asked for help from tutors and experienced math anxiety first hand. Skills used in the math classroom like critical thinking, communicating one's thinking, and breaking down complex problems into more manageable parts are essential in life.
