I believe that my students learn effectively when they are in a task-based environment. In a task-based approach, the focus of classroom activities is on the task whereby language is the instrument which the students use to engage in the activities. My role being the facilitator, is to determine the warm up activity for my students who become aware of the task sequence under the particular theme. I introduce my students to the necessary vocabulary for the lesson to complete the task. The students must see the importance of the tasks, so they know how to apply them in the outside world. I always try to evaluate tasks on the basis of the skills that students might need to acquire. As a facilitator, I try to be more flexible with the students and engage them in small group activities that allow and facilitate participants to become acquainted with each other and share ideas in a communicative environment. Small group discussions are particularly effective to help students feel comfortable while sharing their thoughts and ideas. I personally advocate Task-Based Language Teaching because it enables me to logically scaffold learning and it allows for students to collaborate and work together towards a common goal. I try to combine ESL students with the graduate students who try to solve the tasks with the non-native speakers, so the latter face challenging situations to learn more topics.
