About Hazel

I’m a friendly, approachable and highly dedicated piano teacher, and I put a lot of thought into how I teach each individual student.

I believe every student learns differently, so my approach is strongly strengths-based: I identify what they respond to best and build from there, making learning clear, enjoyable and empowering while still challenging them to grow.
My approach is also collaborative, with goals negotiated together with students and families so that what we work towards is genuinely meaningful for them.

I’m constantly reflecting and adapting my teaching rather than using the same approach for everyone. I genuinely care about my students’ progress, both during and beyond each lesson.

About the lesson

My lessons are usually 45–60 minutes and are structured around a classical piano syllabus. A typical lesson may include scales and technical work, repertoire, sight-reading, theory and musicality, but the focus changes depending on the student and what they need that day.

Lessons are structured around building a strong foundation, with particular attention to posture, hand position, technique and understanding the music rather than simply learning the notes. Depending on the student and the lesson, we may focus more on scales, technique, repertoire, sight-reading, theory or musicality.

The focus can also shift when something needs more time, so students have the chance to properly understand and remember what they are learning rather than rushing through everything. Lessons are thorough and structured, but never overly strict: there is always a balance between being challenged, staying encouraged and enjoying the process.
