About Peter

For 12 years, I had the privilege to not only learn from great cellists, but also play music alongside many talented musicians in various chamber ensembles—local and abroad. I have been taught by Bo Peng, who has studied with the distinguished cellist, Janos Starker, for the majority of my cello experience. During this time, I’ve also participated in several orchestras such as VYSO Senior division and Richmond Chinese Orchestra & Vocal.

My most notable accomplishments include Second Place in the BC Provincial Kiwanis Festival in the quartet division and participating in an international music festival as a soloist and chamber musician in Casalmaggiore, Italy.

Although I have extensive experience in music, I've recently decided to take a new direction by pursuing my passion in the financial services. Since then, I have been teaching cello part-time to numerous students in all ages for the past 4 years. Currently, I am studying for my Bachelor's of Business Administration concentration for Accounting, and I'll be interning at Ernst & Young this Summer. After graduation, I plan on building my accounting career at EY while pursuing my CPA designation.

About the lesson

I believe there is so much more to music than the fundamentals, and my mission is teaching advanced cello performance techniques to make the cello an outlet for students to connect and express their emotions.

*My teaching methodology*
- Identify immediate and long-term goals.
- Evaluate the student’s understanding of music and skills
- Customize cello lessons for student, maximizing their learning outcomes.
- Provide engaging and stress-free environment especially for younger students.
- Build long-lasting relationship with students

In terms of teaching material, I can teach all levels of RCM repertoire, Bach Suites, Tangos, Concertos, Sonatas and any song a student wants to play!
