About Kendra
Performing at old-time festivals across the American South for 6 years has shaped my perspective on string music. I hold a BA Folk Music from Berea College in Kentucky. My instruction style is laid-back and patient. I prioritize the groove above technical perfection.
Teens and adults often find this approach helpful for building confidence. Absolute beginners join me to learn tuning by ear and basic orchestral playing. My 7 years of experience inform how I demonstrate double stops and shifting positions.
Developing a solid foundation in ear training takes time. Small steps matter. I enjoy helping people find their own sound.

Can you hear the difference between a flat note and a resonant tone? Beginners learn to hold the bow and produce a clear sound during our time together. We work on intonation through repetitive ear training exercises.
This process helps students shift positions without hesitation. My 7 years of experience with folk traditions influence how we tackle classical repertoire. We address double stops and left hand agility during our sessions. The BA Folk Music degree I earned at Berea College gives me a framework for teaching technical skills.
Many students find that consistent practice leads to steady progress. It becomes quite natural after a while.
