About Kim
Jun Hyeop Kim is a versatile composer, conductor, and orchestrator based in
Reykjavík, Iceland. His artistic philosophy centers on finding the equilibrium
between rigorous structural logic and sensory sonic texture, an approach deeply
informed by his diverse educational journey through Seoul, San Francisco (B.M.,
SFCM), and Iceland (M.M., Iceland University of the Arts).
Rather than being confined to a single discipline, Kim’s versatile portfolio
encompasses everything from large-scale orchestral and intimate choral pieces to
original film scores. Whether composing for the concert hall or the cinema, his
primary focus remains on breathing narrative resonance into contemporary music.
Also an active conductor and educator, he frequently collaborates with various
ensembles globally, including recent masterclasses with the Iceland Symphony
Orchestra, continuing to expand his multifaceted artistic presence.

"Are you losing your unique voice while trapped in rigid theory?"
Hello, I’m Jun Hyeop Kim. My musical exploration lies at the intersection of rigorous structural logic and sensory sonic textures—bridging the gap between traditional discipline and contemporary Icelandic/European aesthetics.
I don’t just teach "textbook" harmony or counterpoint. Instead, we dive deep into the 'why' and 'how':
Why does a specific harmony sound "modern"?
How do we create "narrative resonance" that truly captivates an audience?
What makes a score "alive" when you look at it?
My goal is not to destroy tradition, but to evolve it organically to help you define your own modernism. Whether you are preparing for conservatory or seeking a lifelong musical toolkit, I provide an exploratory curriculum centered on deep analysis rather than rote memorization.
