# The Draft:

I am a bilingual BYU student with over 15 years of personal experience and immersion in Mandarin, having grown up around the language since I was two years old. Even though I had a deep connection to it, when I was younger, I actually despised it. It felt incredibly intimidating, and I felt like I could never truly understand it.

When I was called to serve as a volunteer representative on a two-year mission speaking Mandarin, it was quite the challenge. But during that time, everything changed—I absolutely fell in love with the language.

Through my own journey, I realized there is an incredibly large gap in how Mandarin is taught. It can often seem so daunting, leaving many students feeling bored or disconnected. I want to change that. I would love to help you bridge that gap, break through the frustration, and find the real joy and beauty in learning this language.

About the lesson

I don’t believe in rigid, one-size-fits-all textbooks. My entire approach is built on custom, 1-on-1 adaptation—meeting you exactly where you are today so we can focus on what actually matters to you.

Depending on your goals, we can target exactly what you need:

Tones & Pronunciation: If your tones feel off, we will work on developing clear, natural-sounding speech that native speakers instantly understand, moving past that robotic "textbook" feel.

Grammar & Structure: If you struggle to form sentences, we will focus on confidently building them from scratch, mastering the inner logic of Mandarin without getting bogged down by dry jargon.

Listening & Speaking: If you feel stuck in your head, we will work on breaking through the conversational barrier so you can fluidly keep up with real-time dialogue.

Accent & Flow: If you want to sound more authentic, we will focus on internalizing the subtle rhythms, mouth mechanics, and natural inflections used by native speakers.

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to break through a frustrating plateau, we will build a roadmap around where you are and where you want to go!
