About Sid

Bonjour et Bienvenue!
My name is Sid, and I am a French teacher with 20+ years of teaching experience helping students learn and improve their French.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Translation and a TESOL certificate from Simon Fraser University. From 2003 to 2018, I ran my own private language school, where I taught French to students of different ages, levels, and backgrounds. I have also worked as a freelance translator and interpreter for various companies.
I teach using French-language textbooks and materials, so my pronunciation and accent follow the standard French model used in these resources. Having lived in Quebec for 18 years, I am very familiar with Quebec French, including its distinctive pronunciation, expressions, and linguistic features. As a multilingual with broad knowledge of international linguistics, I draw on my understanding of different languages and language systems to identify potential difficulties and make learning French clearer, easier, and more effective for my students.

About the lesson

I specialize in “In-person French lessons” because language learning is fundamentally about human interaction. Face-to-face lessons allow natural conversation, immediate feedback, better communication, and a stronger teacher-student connection in real contexts. They also provide a more focused learning environment with fewer distractions.
The main distinctive feature of my teaching is the use of contrastive linguistics. My multilingual background lets me use English, and Spanish as source languages when helpful. Instead of asking students to memorize every French word and rule separately, I show them useful patterns and connections between French and languages they already know.
These patterns can apply to adverbs, nouns, adjectives, verbs, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary.
A small linguistic hint can save a lot of memorization!
For example, many English adverbs ending in -ly correspond to French adverbs ending in -ment:
directly = directement
normally = normalement
Whether you are a complete beginner or already have some knowledge of French, I can help you improve all four skills: pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.
Lessons are adapted to your level, needs, and objectives.
I believe that learning French should be more than memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules. It should be about understanding how the language works, communicating naturally, and building confidence.
My goal is to make French learning fun, practical, logical, and effective.
I don't just teach you what to learn — I show you how to understand the language for yourself.
Au plaisir de vous rencontrer et de vous aider à apprendre le français!
