I started studying French at University and I suddenly fell in love with this language. Later, I spent my first summer in Belgium and I really enjoyed it. Finally, I decided to go and study in France.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Brigitte Bardot and Alain Delon contributed to creating the stereotype of the charming and impossible French girl/guy.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?
I like all the expressions which refer to love, for their romantic and special pronunciation, like "je t'aime, mon amour "
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
I spent a lot of time in France, this language has become my second language. I feel very close to French people.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
The pronunciation is the most difficult aspect, it is important to practice a lot, by listening to podcasts/music, watching videos, and speaking French whenever it is possible.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I used to pronounce some words in the wrong way, and it was really funny for French people. For example, the word "queue", if pronounced in the English way, would mean "ass".
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
I studied at University in France and that helped me a lot. After university, I spent many years working between Italy and France and that also helped me to improve my skills, especially with regards to business communication and the various regional accents.
