About Marietou
I am a 25-year-old student at Northwestern University - Pritzker School of Law. Before this, I attended Rutgers University - School of Engineering and graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. It sounds like I'm quite the genius but it took a lot of hard work to get me here.
I struggled a lot growing up with math but I loved science, ironically enough. How can you be bad at math when science needs it? For me, it was mostly how it was taught. Science focused on real-world applications and math class was usually a lot of numbers floating on the board and equations that appeared "because that's what you are supposed to do". I learned that for myself learning the why and the how was just as important as knowing the what and it helped me along the way to get to where I am now.
I am quite the nerd but I love music, sports (volleyball especially), and art. I love learning in general not just specifically math, so you will definitely learn a lot of fun facts along the way with me!

I approach lessons from a top-down view. I emphasize the importance of understanding concepts from the "why" perspective to then build skills on. I think kids learn best when they understand why they have to learn something and the bigger picture presented in the skills they are learning. Once we have the bigger picture we then work on more specific skills and then learn their applications. My lessons follow a structure of Why, What, & How. I also focus on developing skills in a way that each unique student learns best as we all don't learn the same way.
These lessons are for middle school to high school students who are particularly struggling or looking to advance in math and science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry - including AP level courses). I have worked with kids for a very long time and I am very patient, but also I love to make learning fun.
I have a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University and I am currently attending Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law to obtain my M.S. in Law. I love to learn just as much as I love to teach.
