About Ega
I'm a Brazilian writer of poetry and fiction who moved from Rio to Lisbon at the age of 20. In Portugal, besides teaching private Portuguese classes, I've published a poetry book and worked as a bookseller. After 1 year I moved to Kenya to teach English in a Children's Home for 6 months, and finally I moved to London, where I have lived for the past 5 years. Besides teaching online Portuguese classes I study a Creative Writing BA at Birkbeck University of London and work as a Gallery Assistant at the Whitechapel Gallery.

My teaching method is a relaxed informal conversation, even if your level is zero. We'll talk about your cultural interests — maybe we'll look at Brazilian music, and listening together we'll become familiar with the sounds of the language. We'll look at musicians, poets; we'll translate lyrics, poems. We'll do exercises using the 'Modern Brazilian Portuguese Grammar (Workbook)'; we'll write stuff building up on your new vocabulary. It's organic and experimental, and it's above all fun.
I've taught a variety of students, from bilingual children having issues at school, to English-speakers moving to Portugal or Brazil, and Italian speakers who love Brazilian music and literature. My method with the latter, for example, was the slow collaborative translation of short stories from Italian to Portuguese, and the translation of Brazilian songs to Italian. We'll figure out the most dynamic method according to your wish.
Lessons can be 1 hour or 1 hour and a half.
