About Louise
I'm Louise (Luisa/Lou) — I live in Kent, currently learning Spanish myself (slowly but enthusiastically) ahead of a move to Spain, so I know exactly what it feels like to be on the other side of this — working through the formalities of a language yet still missing half the jokes.
Since 2018 I've worked with founders and small businesses on how they communicate — messaging, content, the gap between what people mean and what actually lands when they say it. Before that, years in client-facing roles where reading a room and choosing the right words properly mattered.
I've always been a bit obsessed with language — not just vocabulary, but the psychology of how we phrase things, why one way of saying something lands and another falls flat. That's been at the heart of my work as a writer for years.
What I bring is a native speaker's ear for the parts of English that live outside the rulebook: the slang, the idioms, the stuff people actually say versus what gets written down in textbooks. It's the same instinct I use professionally, just pointed at a different problem.
I have a black cat called Evie, I love cooking for people (dancing non-negotiable). I'm outgoing and talkative and love meeting people from around the world.

You can already speak English. Properly. Grammar's solid, vocab's broad, you passed whatever exam you needed to pass. But then someone says "let's park that" or calls something "a bit of a faff," and you're nodding along having no real idea what just happened.
That's the gap I teach. Not beginner English — you don't need that. I focus on slang, jargon, idioms, and the dry understatement Brits use constantly (we say one thing and mean another, sorry about that). The kind of thing that never makes it into a textbook but decides whether you sound fluent or just... correct.
How I teach: No rigid curriculum — sessions are built around what you're actually running into. Bring me a phrase you heard and couldn't place, an email you're not sure how to read, a joke everyone laughed at except you, and we unpack it: what it means, when to use it, when not to, and why. Over time we build up the phrases and instincts that actually get used day to day, not the ones in a phrasebook.
Lesson length: Sessions typically run 45-60 minutes online — long enough to get into real examples, short enough to stay sharp and useful.
My background: I'm a native British English speaker who's spent 10+ years working closely with language and communication including copywriting, messaging, content strategy etc. I'm not a certified language teacher, but this isn't classroom English — it's the real, lived version, taught by someone who thinks about how English actually gets used for a living.
Who this is for: High-proficiency non-native speakers — you're already fluent or close to it. This is for people who want to close the last gap: sounding native, catching nuance, understanding what's really being said at work or socially in the UK. Not suitable for beginners or intermediate learners — you'll need solid English already.
