About Aidan
I have achieved Distinction at Grade 5 Music Theory and have also covered up to equivalent of Grade 8 standard through my Mathematics and Music degree at university. Music is a big part of my life with Piano and Singing in particular, and Music Theory has formed a big backbone of this. I aim to inspire students within their lessons to continue and heighten their interests within Music, and my previous experiences of tutoring, both within Music and Maths, means I am strong at lesson organisation and time management so that I can run lessons in a calm and confident manner that gets the most out of the student.

Over the course of an hour, I aim to guide students through the Grade 5 Music Theory syllabus in order for them to be able to take performance grades at higher levels, as well as develop an interest within Music Theory. Playing the piano up to degree standard as well as conducting in various choirs means I have had experience in applying a wide range of the content covered in Music Theory, and I would utilise this to make lessons engaging and show the usefulness of Music Theory beyond the exams. The lessons are aimed to anyone who are interested in Music - previous Music Theory grades are not a requirement here. My experience in teaching Piano and Singing lessons both with Morningside School of Music as well as independently for over a year on multiple platforms means I know how to get the most out of a lesson.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Aidan is a friendly, confident, and knowledgeable tutor in maths, piano and singing. He is very well-qualified.
Aidan is very passionate about his work, and was always a great person to work with at university. We studied together, and throughout the time that I've known him he's helped me understand things I got stuck on countless times.
I have been able to work with Aidan both as a peer in Mathematics at University and as colleagues in the Edinburgh University Maths Outreach Team. Being in several of the same classes at University Aidan has been a valuable part of the group, talking through new ideas, spending time working through hard problems, and having the satisfaction of coming to a correct answer.
As part of the Maths Outreach Team at Edinburgh University I have worked with him on several projects such as the Edinburgh Science Festival, Maths Circles, and an event for the general public showcasing some geometric ideas. All of these events involve communicating mathematics to children of all ages (and in many cases their parents) which Aidan was excellent at. A core idea of the Maths Outreach Team (in particular, Maths Circles) is that we are not only interested in participants getting the correct answer but we want the children to be able to reason and tell us why their answer is correct. As such, not only is Aidan able to communicate mathematical ideas to a range of age groups, he is able to do it in a way that allows students to develop their understanding and reasoning and so better understand maths.
Aidan is a solid member of the mathematical community at the University of Edinburgh. As a volunteer at the Maths Outreach Team, he has led Math Circles for groups of up to 30 young students doing maths puzzles, and has even contributed his time to help out with the Maths Week Scotland, which was a tremendous success. Furthermore, his past experience tutoring and his patient and attentive engagement with the university course on mathematics in the Scottish secondary education system, aptly qualified him for future work tutoring maths students.
