About Anna-Maria
In 2023, I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Double First in English. Since then, I've been gently applying the analytic curiosity fostered there to every piece of literature, art, music or media that I consume and love. My lessons are primarily aimed at A Level students looking to pursue studying English at university, so I focus on material beyond the A Level / GCSE curriculum (though I can help you with exams and coursework - I received an A* and full marks for coursework at A Level, and the top score in the country for iGCSE) I can also help demystify the Oxbridge admissions process for English, having survived the interview and achieved 59/60 on the ELAT (entrance exam). I have a real belief that studying English is enriching beyond what's visible in the classroom or made manifest in exam results - a deeper engagement with the writing that excites me is something that I am excited to sustain for the rest of my life, and I want to give thoughtful, creative students the skills to share this lifelong bug.

The Cambridge English degree got me asking questions like these, and after the rigidity of the GCSE and A Level exam syllabi, I found this freedom SO INSPIRING AND FUN! The structure of my lessons is informed by my practical criticism seminars at Cambridge, where we would participate in group discussion to analyse collections of unfamiliar texts. We'll start with a thematic gathering of different texts and media -- poems, prose extracts, criticism, artwork, songs, anything you're particularly interested in -- and from that point, we are free to explore! This can be supplemented with evaluative written work, which serves as excellent preparation for students wishing to sit the ELAT (Cambridge English entrance exam) or prepare for the unseen poetry paper at A Level. The aim of my lessons is to nurture a student's passion for unfamiliar texts, and the unexpected (and often exciting!) ways in which they can be brought together.
