I start the lessons with breathing exercise as (The idea is to monitor your breathing, and ensure that you can last through long phrases. As it makes sure the hiss is consistent that it is not louder at the beginning than at the end. You are aiming for a smooth even sound) and then practicing swaras as it's the basics in vocal so that once the student is perfect in it he/she will gain the confidence in singing.
