About Carmen

Hi there! I’m Carmen, a native English tutor from the Midlands, England, with a neutral British accent. Having lived in other countries and studied languages myself, I understand the challenges of learning a new language from a student’s perspective. This personal experience helps me create supportive, engaging lessons that build confidence and make learning enjoyable.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in European Languages and Cultures from the University of Groningen and a CELTA qualification from Cambridge. I’ve also passed an enhanced DBS check in the UK, so you can feel assured of a safe and professional learning environment. With over 5 years of teaching experience, I’ve worked with learners of all ages and levels — from young children and refugees to business professionals, international university students. My teaching style is nurturing and adaptable, focusing on your individual goals and interests.

Outside of teaching, I love exploring nature, travelling, and immersing myself in music, film, history, and art. I’m passionate about connecting with people from different cultures and believe that learning languages is a powerful tool for broadening our perspectives.

About the lesson

I believe the key to learning a language is making it interesting, and immersing yourself in the many cultures of a language and the general attitude of it, it's history etc. Because of this, I focus on using authentic materials to create an immersive learning experience incorporating the goals of my students.

My lessons are tailored to my student's specific goals, whether they’re a complete beginner, preparing for exams, or looking to improve their conversational, writing, or listening skills. I adapt to my students needs in an encouraging environment to build confidence.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, and I work with students of all ages, from young children to adults. Whether you need help with academic English, casual conversation, or anything in between, I can help.
