About Karla
Hi! I’m here to make math feel doable.
I’m a New York State certified mathematics teacher with a Master’s degree in Secondary Mathematics Education, and I’ve worked with students in grades 7–12 as well as SAT students.
But I wasn’t always the person who felt confident in math. I struggled with math growing up too, so I know what it feels like to look at a problem and think, “I have no idea where to even start.” I also know how frustrating it can be when something seems easy to everyone else but just doesn’t click for you.
That experience is a huge part of why I love teaching. My goal is to make math feel doable for every student. I don’t believe you have to be a “math person” to succeed. Sometimes you just need someone who can explain the same idea in a different way, slow things down, and help you build confidence one step at a time.

Lessons begin with a brief & important “icebreaker session”. I’ll learn the students' goals as well as their struggles. If students have specific material to work on, that would be the first step, during which I can identify points of improvement. Preassessments can also be conducted to get a broad overview of each student's knowledge.
