About Gillian

I am a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineer with professional R&D experience and a strong background in STEM education, research, and mentorship. I earned my B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and have worked as an R&D Engineer applying chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering principles to real-world biomedical challenges. My research experience includes peer-reviewed publications in synthetic biology and molecular diagnostics, which allow me to bring practical scientific insight to my lessons.

I have experience tutoring students from middle school through college and focus on creating a supportive, personalized learning environment. My teaching approach emphasizes understanding concepts, developing problem-solving skills, and building confidence rather than relying on memorization. I adapt each lesson to the student's goals, learning style, and current level of understanding.

Students can expect a professional and encouraging learning experience where complex topics are broken down into clear, manageable steps. Whether a student is preparing for an exam, strengthening foundational skills, or exploring STEM fields more deeply, I use my engineering and research background to help them become confident, independent learners.

My goal as a tutor is to help students truly understand STEM concepts and develop the confidence to solve problems independently. As a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineer and R&D Engineer, I bring a practical, real-world perspective to subjects like math, chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to match each student's needs, learning preferences, and goals.

My lessons focus on understanding the "why" behind concepts rather than memorizing formulas or steps. A typical session begins by identifying the student's goals and reviewing challenging topics or assignments. I then break down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps, demonstrate problem-solving strategies, and work through examples with the student before guiding them through independent practice problems. This approach helps students build both knowledge and confidence.

What sets me apart is my combination of engineering experience, research background, and personalized teaching approach. I earned my B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and have professional experience as an R&D Engineer working on biomedical applications. I have also contributed to peer-reviewed research in synthetic biology and molecular diagnostics, allowing me to connect classroom concepts to real scientific and engineering applications.

I work with students from middle school through college, including those studying general science, biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, and introductory engineering courses. Whether a student is looking to strengthen their foundation, improve their grades, prepare for exams, or explore STEM fields more deeply, I create a supportive environment where they can grow into confident problem solvers.
