My approach to tutoring is to meet my student where they are at. I like to take my first lesson with a student as a way to get to know them and how they learn. From there, I like to develop a framework for lesson plans with them, so that they know what to expect in tutoring sessions.
A typical session with me looks like:
1. A check-in-- I think it is important to get to know students on a personal level and know what is going on in their life
2. Discussion of the lesson plan and make any necessary changes
3. Connect lesson plan to school work/homework
4. Track progress-- different based on each student
