About Karis

Karis Dharmawirya is a violinist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is currently earning a bachelor’s degree in violin performance under the tutelage of Kurt Sassmannshaus at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and previously studied with Lee Snyder at the Settlement Music School. Karis was a Primavera Fund artist from 2018-2023, and has played in masterclasses for Danielle Belen, Rachel Barton Pine, Sarita Kwok, David Kim, Robert McDuffie, Amy Schwartz Moretti, Francesca Depasquale, Ilya Kaler, and Kenneth Renshaw. She served as associate concertmaster of the Philadelphia Sinfonia youth orchestra and was also a participant of the Settlement Advanced Study string quartet program for four years, where she was honored to play in masterclasses for the Takacs and Dover Quartets. Karis won the 2022 Outstanding Young Christian Artist competition and has received the Eric Anderson Scholarship, Csehy Summer School of Music Award of Honor, and 2023 Union League Good Citizenship Award. She has attended numerous summer music festivals including Bowdoin International Music Festival, Point CounterPoint, and Csehy Summer School of Music. Karis is passionate about sharing her music with the community and especially enjoys teaching and playing at her church and nursing homes.

About the lesson

Hello! My teaching focuses on creating strong fundamental technique and learning to pay attention to details in music while nurturing a love for this art. Each lesson focuses on one to three broad concepts so that the student will not be overwhelmed, and I will explain and demonstrate these concepts in the student's current repertoire so that everything is clear.
I am open and excited to help you learn whatever music you'd like to for whatever stage in life and music you are at.
