About Erik

I attended Arizona State University on a full scholarship for trumpet performance, and was the only graduate trumpet student admitted to the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2005, beating out over 200 applicants. While at CIM I was the first trumpeter to win both the Bernard Adelstein Award and the Dr. Calvin Webster Award. I was also awarded the award for artistry from the Fortnightly Club of Clevend, being the first brass player to win it in over 30 years. I have performed multiple times on National Public Radio, and was featured in an Easter special on ABC, which aired in 2006 and 2007.

I have held a chair in the Canton Symphony and have played as a substitute musician with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, among others.

With my brass quintet, the Starkweather brass, we performed concerts and recitals throughout Ohio before joining the Army as a trumpet player.

Having taught lessons since 1999, I bring decades of experience andI am happy to say that many of my former students have been admitted to some of the nation's top conservatories including Julliard, the Eastman School of Music and the Curtis Consrvatory to name a few.

About the lesson

I've studied with some of the premier trumpet players, including David Hickman (international soloist), Michael Sachs (Principal trumpet Cleveland Orchestra), Manny Laureano (Principal trumpet Minnesota Orchestra), and more....I bring their knowledge into every lesson. I focus on technique because if you have the technique, you can play anything.
