About Nathan
I graduated from University of Adelaide with a PhD in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience and a First Class Honours in Cognitive Neurophysiology. I have held postdoctoral positions at CNRS in France and University of Newcastle, and received training at The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, Brown University, the Allen Institute of Brain Science, the Bernstein Centre at Humboldt University in Berlin, and others.
I have 10 years of tutoring/lecturing experience spanning all undergraduate levels and many hundreds of students, including the supervision of Honours and PhD students. My teaching has been recognised by numerous teaching awards.
I have taught all areas of psychological science, including statistics and research methodology, health and lifespan development, personality assessment and individual differences, psychophysics, neurobiology, cognition and perception, learning and behaviour (e.g., reinforcement).
I am particularly interested in developing critical thought, scientific reasoning, creativity in approaching the sciences, and philosophical understanding of the scientific practice.

Undergraduate and Honours level tutoring in Psychology, Statistics, Philosophy of Science, Cognitive Neuroscience. Not currently taking High School students.
I approach teaching by presenting material at various levels so as to introduce students to the history of a concept, its theoretical background, how it came to be empirically conceptualised, experimentation that resulted in its formalisation in various disciplines, and its practical utility. This approach has proven effective because it allows students to attach their interest to one or several of the steps of psychology, and use that interest to develop understanding of the whole concept.
I tailor learning material to the curriculum and to the needs of each student, so the first lesson is used to establish those things unless there is no need to do so (e.g., in cases of practical help with statistics or editing an assignment), in which case the first lesson is not free.
I am also happy to edit assignments in some cases, and provide constructive feedback on writing, format, structure, argument, language, and so on.
Lessons take place at the University of Adelaide or the State Library.
