About Jyl
I currently teach Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level; the student population includes PT majors, Nursing majors, Nutrition majors, Exercise Science majors and Biology majors. I have over 20 years of teaching at this level, both lectures and lab, in a variety of courses including Introductory Biology, Microbiology, Animal Physiology, Cell Biology and Anatomy and Physiology (1 and 2). My academic background is rooted in Cell and Molecular Biology; my bench research was done in a cancer lab at BUMC which studied cell cycle physiology.

- My teaching is geared towards upper level high school science or college level courses
-I like to present concepts broadly and then break them down into manageable pieces; I think it's hard to understand all the parts if you don't know what whole is first.
-Building a foundation of information is important so that a student can then learn how to apply that information. So, I like to help students "build their own house" by first showing them which tools they will need to do that.
-I use a ton of analogies to make hard concepts less scary and easier to digest; I also like to use props anytime I can to illustrate an idea. (ketchup packets become bursa in a joint; Gogurts are used to show peristalsis in the GI tract)
