About Dan
I'm an experienced teacher/tutor with a MSc in Computer Science and a BSc in Math and Computer Science. I've taught as an instructor in the Computer Science department at Dawson College and McGill University for over 15 years. Before that, I worked at Microsoft and Ericsson as a software developer for 6 years, where I cemented my technical knowledge.
As I'm new to this site, I don't have reviews yet, but please look at my rate my professor reviews for some references! (concealed information)
Even when I worked in industry though, I knew that teaching was my passion, and while programming is always very challenging, it's also very rewarding, and I enjoy being a part of that process.
Some areas of expertise include the below:
Java, JavaScript/Node.js, C/C++, C#, SQL, MongoDB, Object Oriented Development, Python, Bash scripting, Software Design Principles, Git, Artificial intelligence, Algorithms, Data Structures
Most programming languages have a lot of similarities, and so even if the language you're interested in doesn't appear in the list above, it's likely I can help you as knowledge of one language is typically transferable to other languages.
Lastly, I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics (with a specialty of statistics), which comes in handy in many areas of programming, as they form the foundations of topics such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

A bit about my teaching philosophy:
I structure my lessons around what my students need. In general, I'm a strong believer in active learning by examples. I start by finding the point where my students' struggles begin. I then give examples and smaller problems to them, gradually increasing the difficulty level until they've reached their desired level of understanding.
My lessons are for any student who wishes to improve at computer science and/or computer programming.
