About Sultan

Hello! I am a Macaulay Honors College student and Stuyvesant High School graduate from NYC with three years of tutoring experience. I work with students in Spanish, science, and math, helping them build foundational skills, keep up with schoolwork, and prepare for AP exams and NYS Regents. Having earned 4s and 5s on AP exams and the NYS Seal of Biliteracy, I bring a strong academic background and a patient, interactive approach focused on helping students make meaningful progress and become more confident and independent problem-solvers.

My past students have often given positive feedback, describing me as patient and saying that I make difficult material easier to understand. I have worked with students from across NYC and beyond, and I am genuinely passionate about helping anyone. So, please feel free to reach out!

About the lesson

I aim to make my lessons personalized, interactive, and focused on meaningful progress. I start by getting a sense of what the student already understands, where they tend to struggle, and what approaches work best for them. From there, I adjust my explanations and activities to fit their individual needs. This means keeping lessons conversational and engaging, asking students to explain their reasoning, think through questions aloud, and make connections where they can. When something is difficult, I break it into smaller concepts and try different explanations or examples until we find an approach that makes sense. I also have students apply what they learn themselves, which helps me identify misunderstandings and allows me to gradually step back as they become more confident.

I use slideshows, whiteboards, online simulations, and videos to make lessons more engaging and give students different ways to interact with the material. For Spanish, I also plan to incorporate the TPRS method (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), which uses reading and storytelling to make language learning more natural and accessible, especially for beginners.

Essentially, I don't want to simply give students answers. I want them to understand the material and develop the confidence to approach unfamiliar problems on their own. A successful lesson, to me, is one where a student can do something independently at the end that they couldn't do at the beginning.

I went with Sultan to the same afterschool where he would tutor kids. Many of them were hard to deal with but after each session with Sultan they would somehow have some work done. That is why our teachers would always rely on him to make sure kids got their homework done.
