About Kemal
I am a physics PhD candidate with a bachelor's degree in physics from Columbia. My research is in quantum computing and computational physics, with work published in top journals such as Nature Physics.
Alongside research, I have spent four years as a university teaching assistant, covering five undergraduate physics courses and hundreds of students through recitations, laboratories, and office hours. I also mentor undergraduate and master's students on research projects, which has taught me how to explain the same idea to people at very different levels.
I treat tutoring as real work rather than something fitted around other commitments. I come prepared, I keep track of where a student left off between sessions, and I am straightforward about what I think will help and what will not. If I am not the right fit for a particular subject or level, I will tell you rather than take the booking.

I studied physics at Columbia and am now a physics PhD candidate. For four years I have been a teaching assistant, running recitations, labs, and office hours for over hundreds of students. I know where people actually get stuck in these courses, and it is rarely where the textbook assumes.
My method: I don't lecture. I ask you to show me your attempt and talk through your reasoning, so we can find the exact step where it goes wrong. Then we work problems together, with you holding the pen. I push on the physical picture before the algebra — what is happening, what the answer should look like, whether the units work. Students who build that habit stop memorizing formulas and start reconstructing them.
Sessions are shaped around what you need that week. Some are exam preparation, some are working through a problem set, some are going back to fill a gap left by an earlier course.
Lessons suit high school physics and math and introductory physics courses. This includes high school physics, all AP Physics courses, general physics, calculus, and lab courses.
