About Andrei

I study at the Faculty of Automation and Computers in Timișoara and I'm a graduate of the psychology and pedagogy training module. I am also a software developer with experience in a corporate environment. I am passionate about engineering, programming, and the way these can be explained simply and in a way that everyone can understand. I have experience as a mentor and trainer in programming workshops for children and teenagers, as well as a laboratory tutor for younger university colleagues.

I actually work as a software developer, so I know both the theoretical and the practical side of programming. My academic experience is in: C/C++, Java, Python, SQL, mathematics, electronics, computer systems design. My work experience has also given me additional skills, such as embedded systems, cloud architectures, etc.

In my group of friends at university, I am always the one who explains the course material to others after I have understood it. I tend to take teaching seriously even in informal contexts. Before enrolling at the Polytechnic University, in high school, I had to choose between the humanities field (psychology, pedagogy, philology, philosophy, linguistics) and the STEM field (computer science, computers, automation, electronics). I chose computers because it attracted me the most out of all of them, but I still regularly read about the subjects that interest me. My interest in psychology and pedagogy is also useful to me in my teaching activity.

I study computer engineering in English and I speak English fluently, so I can also hold lessons in this language.

My computer science lessons are designed to make programming and algorithms accessible and interesting. I like to combine theory with practical examples, so that students understand why and how a concept works, not just memorize it. My methods include visual explanations, applied exercises, small projects, and interactive sessions in which students are challenged to think and discover solutions on their own. Practical applications are completed by the student on an online platform for different technical subjects, so that the student can do their homework and review the theory even when I am not there.

As far as mathematics, electronics, and computer design are concerned, the lessons are conducted using a graphics tablet, with drawings, notes, block diagrams, and calculations. Later, we also use software for graphing algebraic functions or simulating electronic and logic components.

A typical lesson begins with a short review of previous concepts, followed by new explanations presented in a way the student can understand, and then we practise together through practical problems and applications. The end of the lesson is always dedicated to a short summary and recommendations for individual practice.

As a teacher, what sets me apart is my patience, creativity, and the way I adapt the lesson to each student's pace and style. I like to turn abstract concepts into concrete examples, sometimes even fun ones, so that the student stays motivated.

The lessons are intended for middle school and high school students, whether they want to improve their grades, prepare for exams or Olympiads, or simply discover engineering in a relaxed and friendly way.

I use fundamentals of psychology and pedagogy to make learning more efficient. I create an informal relationship with my students, but at the same time I do not allow disrespect. I am the democratic teacher from the psychology of leadership. A student who is not under pressure is a student who learns efficiently. I make use of the principle of neuroplasticity, so I give homework often, ask students to take notes, and ask them to read the same information from different perspectives and sources.

The explanations during the lesson represent a reference for what the student needs to learn, but the objective is for you to become increasingly independent in learning and problem solving. At first, you may depend on my clarifications, but later you will be enabled to learn on your own, and my role will ultimately be to guide the learning process and provide you with clarifications in order to help you achieve your goal.

I focus a lot on the competence of “learning how to learn”, so the student will check external sources, for example PDF books, research articles, and even ChatGPT between lessons. We will then set some expectations about how deeply or in how much detail you need to understand the content. If you can work with it, apply it, analyse it, compare it, and evaluate it with ease, then you are ready to face your exam.

After a few months of tutoring with me, you will become increasingly independent in learning and more capable of exploring new contents regarding our subject in depth on your own. This will help you the most with the exam you are taking or with the goal you want to achieve.
