About Francis
I want the fretboard to become something you can investigate, rather than something you must memorize all at once. I explain patterns in small pieces and help you check them by playing and listening. If a diagram or explanation does not make sense, I am happy to approach the same idea through a different example.
I pay attention to how you practice between lessons. I help you choose a task small enough to repeat carefully and broad enough to connect with a song you care about. I also distinguish a movement problem from an understanding problem, because each needs a different response.
I encourage you to make choices, not just reproduce mine. We can compare different chord voicings, picking approaches, or phrase endings and discuss what each contributes. I aim to give you clear support while leaving room for your musical preferences, so growing independence becomes part of the lesson itself.

I use songs as a way to connect the guitar’s different skills. When we learn a chord change, we also notice its rhythm, the notes shared between the shapes, and the movement that makes the transition easier. You learn a playable part while beginning to understand why it works, rather than collecting disconnected diagrams.
I introduce fretboard ideas through small areas you can hear clearly. A beginner might find a melody beside two familiar chords; a returning student might reconnect shapes they already know; an experienced player might explore chord tones, voice leading, or improvisation over the same progression. The amount of detail changes, but the link between sound and position stays central.
I plan practice around musical tasks, such as keeping a strum steady through one transition or making a short phrase resolve convincingly. Children can approach those tasks through imitation and simple songs; teenagers and adults can compare arrangements or build their own. We work on rhythm and comfortable movement alongside notes, so a part becomes usable at a sensible pace.
