About Samuel

I am an LGBTIQQ+ teacher, native English, but raised in Spain. I speak Spanish, Valencian, Catalan and English fluently and at a native level. I am dynamic, creative and enthusiastic. I always try to turn things around and not do a typical "present simple of the verb to be" class. I want it to be enjoyable, even if you are preparing the most boring subject or the most convoluted exam, I try to get an entertaining side out of it.

I have been teaching English, Spanish, communication (in addition to ICT for people at risk of social exclusion) for 22 years.

I have been head of studies, and then manager, of a fairly powerful academy in Palma de Mallorca, and for 11 years, I have had my own language consulting company, offering training, translation, proofreading and evaluations of all kinds, with the collaboration from other colleagues in the sector.

I am specialized in business English and medical-scientific English, having worked with the College of Pharmacists of the Balearic Islands as a teacher, language advisor and translator, as well as having taught classes for health personnel in the three main hospitals in Mallorca.

On the other hand, I am also a mentor and coach for translators who are just starting out in the industry.

About the lesson

Learn to communicate, not to pass an exam. Or learn to pass an exam, but from the good use of the language, not because you have learned some rules that also have more exceptions than times they are met.

Each person has a different way of learning, let's find out what yours is.

The endless grammar exercises end up getting boring, and in the end, if you're not a linguist, knowing the difference between a present perfect continuous and toast with ham won't do you much good.

All those rules in your head hinder the act of communicating. It is as if everything you know, everything you want to say, has to go through a very fine funnel called grammar and "use of English", and when you have finished thinking about what conjugation, what phrasal or what idiom to use, the conversation is over. dead.

Estuve "ensayando" con Sam quince días antes. Se preparaba muy bien las clases, simulando una entrevista real, con preguntas relevantes al puesto y algunas sorpresas para acostumbrarme a preguntas inesperadas.
Quedé tan contento que seguí haciendo clases de conversación con él durante 3 años más, e incluso gestioné con Recursos Humanos para que abrieran grupos de inglés con él en la empresa. En ese sentido, los comentarios siempre fueron positivos también.
