About Riya

Hi! I'm Riya, a handbag and accessory designer and a graduate of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology). With a strong foundation in design, craftsmanship, and creative exploration, I specialize in bag design, material play, and storytelling through products. Over the years, I’ve worked on multiple projects that blend functionality with artistic flair, and I’m passionate about sharing what I’ve learned with aspiring designers. My goal is to help students not only master the technical side of design but also discover their unique creative voice. Whether you're dreaming of launching your own bag line or simply want to explore a new skill, I'm here to guide you through the process—from sketch to finished piece.

About the lesson

As a graduate from NIFT, I combine a strong foundation in design education with industry-relevant skills to offer well-rounded handbag design classes. My teaching approach is interactive, hands-on, and tailored to each student’s pace and goals.

Teaching Techniques and Methods
I believe in learning by doing. My classes are project-based, where students explore the entire design process—from ideation and sketching to material selection, pattern making, and prototyping. I also incorporate mood board creation, market research, and understanding current trends. Visual aids, demonstrations, feedback sessions, and real-world case studies make the learning experience both engaging and practical.

Usual Class Structure
Each class begins with a quick recap or review, followed by a focused topic or skill for the session. We typically follow this structure:

Warm-up discussion on inspiration or reference material

Demonstration or walkthrough of the concept or technique

Student practice or sketching time, with live feedback

Wrap-up with Q&A and homework suggestions (if applicable)

Students are encouraged to maintain a design journal to document their progress and ideas.

As a practicing designer with a background in both creative direction and craftsmanship, I bring a real-world, industry-informed perspective. I help students not just learn techniques, but also develop their personal design voice, think conceptually, and build a professional portfolio. I'm also very approachable, and I ensure that learning is fun, pressure-free, and inspiring.
