About Valerie
I am a credentialed Spanish teacher in California with three years of teaching experience—two in public schools and one in a charter school. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Linguistics from Boston University and a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University. My academic and professional background reflects a deep commitment to language education, equity, and culturally responsive teaching. In the fall, I will begin a Ph.D. program in Curriculum and Instruction at Stanford University to further explore language pedagogy and teacher education.

My teaching approach is flexible and student-centered, adapting to each learner’s individual goals, interests, and needs. Whether a student is seeking help with homework, conversation practice, or reading skills, I tailor our sessions accordingly. I don’t follow a fixed lesson plan, as I believe learning is most effective when it’s led by the student; however, for those looking for general language exposure, I often use a project-based learning model where grammar is introduced implicitly, reflecting natural language acquisition. Drawing from my classroom experience and academic background—including a master’s in Applied Linguistics and ongoing doctoral studies in Curriculum and Instruction at Stanford—I rely on evidence-based, research-informed teaching methods that prioritize student engagement and meaningful learning.
