Being a tutor as well as a full-time online university student through the ongoing pandemic has molded me to become comfortable with using online software to tutor. I've become very familiarized with Zoom & Microsoft Teams over the past year, and thus would prefer to use these applications to teach. I am however open to adapting to other softwares I am less familiar with. Furthermore, prior to each session, I like to prepare resources such as lesson plans, slideshows, and YouTube videos in advance to optimize my tutees’ understanding of the material that we review.
I have three volunteer experiences that greatly shaped my abilities as a tutor, and that will therefore contribute to my success in this role. Firstly, I volunteered as a teacher’s assistant at my elementary school for a year, through which I performed many duties, one being helping my Grade 2's work through a series of practise problems in many subject fields, which for some, were difficult to comprehend. Additionally, I volunteered as a Grade 11U Biology Peer Tutor in high school through my senior year, assisting an individual who found difficulty in understanding course concepts wrap her head around them. This experience allowed me to build upon the set of skills that being a TA had already handed me. For example, one skill I've obtained through both these experiences is patience, which is crucial to possess because it promotes my tutees to feel understood, despite their academic struggles. Moreover, I am a current tutor for the Homework Help for Charity Organization at McMaster University, providing Science, Psychology, and Math help for those in need.
Sessions can take place through the week or weekends depending on the tutee's needs, & will happen once-twice a week.

Excellent! My son had his first lesson with Vanessa today. These are from my son: she’s accommodating, very clear with her explanation, can relate to my dilemma. My son is looking forward to work with her towards the course of his grade 12 Bio.
I will always be SO thankful for Vanessa. Due to Covid, I experienced a lack of motivation and started falling behind in my classes. Devastated, I aimed to look for the best tutor to help me get back on track. I’ve never gotten a tutor before but if I were to describe what a good tutor would be, I would be describing Vanessa perfectly. She was enthusiastic, patient, flexible and very respectful. It’s safe to say that I have successfully passed all of my classes and couldn’t have done it without her. 100% recommend. You won’t regret it!
Vanessa is an amazing tutor and has helped me a lot with math. I struggled with a few units in advanced functions and she did an amazing job explaining the concepts that were difficult to me. She is kind, patient, and defiantly great at what she does! I would defiantly recommend her for your tutoring needs.
She’d be a great teacher because she has tutored me before for biology. She understands how you learn as an individual and tutors you accordingly. She is a good explainer and knows how to present the context in a simple and understanding way.
