About Alyssia

Through-out my younger Primary School years and early High School years, I struggled so much with maths specifically, to the point I had to receive tutoring. I know the pain of trying and trying at a subject or topic and just not being able to understand it. Receiving maths tutoring when I was younger is one of the main reasons why I love maths now. I was sitting in a very low maths class, not feeling like I was learning much, and a few years later when I told my teachers I was going to do Advanced Higher Maths, they pretty much laughed in my face. However, the skills and the knowledge I had learnt in my maths tutoring in my younger years prepared me to take on the challenge that S1 me never thought was possible. I am by no means saying to you that if you come and work with me you must absolutely fall in love with maths or science and do the subject until you leave High School, I just wanted to share a personal story of knowing the struggles of not being naturally good at a certain subject. I hope that working with me can give you the necessary skills and knowledge that can help you pass your maths or science exams but also skills you can use throughout your education. I know how much I valued my tutors and I hope I can be in the same position for you.

About the lesson

Our first session would consist of getting to know each other and how we can get the best results from our tutoring sessions. Typically, I would ask you what you have currently covered in classes and what your areas of weakness are, and we could start by working on them. Closer to exam time, we would work our way through past papers and again focusing on areas you are unsure about. If you have, for example a test upcoming and want to focus on those topics, then we can plan around doing that. Ultimately, I would like our sessions to be based around you and what you want from it. I am more than happy to make a study plan we can go off, or you can let me know what areas you would like to focus on. Typically, a session would be an hour long, however when it comes to exam time or important tests etc we can absolutely have longer sessions as required. I have studied Maths for most of my life, even up to university level before swapping my degree. I have previous experience of tutoring Maths with excellent results from students sitting at a fail and finishing the year with an A. I have some tutoring experience working with Autism in children, if you would like to discuss this further, please let me know. I can tutor Maths and Science for younger years, and progressing through High School, I can tutor Chemistry and Biology at National 5 level, and Maths at National 5 and Higher level.
