About Grégoire

While I can't display my images here, you can easily find examples of my work online by typing my name, so that you can decide if I am someone you'd like to progress with : Grégoire Pansu.

I am an award-winning photographer with a passion for natural and urban landscapes, in particular mountains. Based in the Alps, I mainly travel throughout them and in Europe to show the beauty of the Old Continent. I especially enjoy working on colors and light in my pictures, and strive to create bright and dreamy images that bring the very best out of each landscape. I also pay particular attention to composition, which is in my opinion the most important element in a picture.

Fundamentally opposed to AI-generated art, I am a proponent of human-generated art - because for me photography is more than just typing prompts into a dialog box.

My photography style is fine art landscaping, which means that I don’t necessarily want or try to share precisely what I’ve seen, but rather my own take on it. Part of my inspiration comes, in fact, from nineteenth-century romantic landscape painters, who depicted idealized and grand versions of real places. My goal is to go beyond a simple retranscription of the landscape in order to create an original artwork. I strive to create bright and dreamy images, and also pay particular attention to composition, which is in my opinion the most important element in a picture. At the core of my photography is a desire to capture the essence of landscapes in a way that resonates with viewers’ feelings. Each image is crafted to distill the beauty and mood of a place, from the play of light and shadow to the textures and colors that define it. For example, I like to show how angry the sea can sometimes be through the exposure time, which impacts the texture and movement of the water.

Each image tells a story. I need to apply different editing techniques for each landscape, and approach them differently, which sometimes leads me to spending a lot of time on a single picture. Some of the techniques I use (such as time blending, focus stacking…), which you can learn by signing up for a coaching session, are essential in order to help me fully develop my take on a landscape. I, however, try to not stray too far away from what my eyes witnessed and the conditions I encountered while shooting when it fits what I want to show in a picture.

You’d like to learn more about how to manage colors, light, composition… and how to shoot and post-process images like me or other artists you appreciate ? 1:1 coaching is i my opinion the best way to learn, as the format is by nature interactive and open. Moreover, you can ask questions and the knowledge is centralized instead of being cut into smaller, unconnected portions. You get all the relevant information and how to apply them in one place and in one go.

While I firmly believe in self-education, especially nowadays with all the content available online, I don’t think it always is the most efficient approach. I learnt everything about photography on my own, and while there were a lot of successes on the way, I also encountered many easily avoidable setbacks, had I mastered the core concepts and some important elements in one go at the beginning. These setbacks often led me to have to spend hours correcting mistakes and go back over my whole portfolio - when I could have known from the get-go how to do things the right way, and therefore focus more on spending time out there creating new images.

Every coaching session is unique and custom-made to fit your needs. Before the session, we’ll talk over what your interests are and what you’d like to learn more about. You can find on my website a list of topics which we could discuss - though we are not limited to these !

My coaching sessions cater to photographers of all levels - whether you just got into landscape photography or you’ve been shooting for years. They also are the perfect gift for someone wanting to learn more about photography and delve deeper into their passion !

Sessions can be conducted in either English or French using screen-sharing software like Skype. Additionally, I offer the option to record the session and provide you with the video for future reference. We can break longer sessions into smaller segments to make it more convenient for you and give you the opportunity to practice the material we discuss.

Concretely, the session(s) will contain both theory and practice, with an emphasis on the real application of the concepts. We'll talk, for example, about the light - colors - composition triangle, how to create a time-blend or a focus stack, or how to edit your or my images (according to your choice) with Photoshop and Lightroom.

If you have a question or want to receive some additional information, do not hesitate to contact me here, on social media or on my website !
