About Serena

I have 11 years of teaching experience and hold a Bachelor’s in Music Performance and a Master’s in String Pedagogy. My academic journey allowed me to study advanced repertoire, ensemble playing, and effective teaching strategies. Over the years, I have taught children, teenagers, and adults at various stages of learning. Each experience has strengthened my understanding of how to guide students with clarity and care.

My teaching philosophy centres on balanced development. I believe technical strength and musical expression should grow together. I adapt my instruction to suit each learner’s pace and personality, offering calm correction and structured guidance. Watching students improve their tone quality and stage confidence brings me deep satisfaction.

Outside teaching, I continue practising advanced works and participating in chamber music groups. Ongoing study keeps my technique refined and my knowledge current. Music has always been a meaningful part of my life, and I am committed to sharing that passion with my students. My goal is to help each learner build lasting skill, confidence, and joy in playing the violin.

About the lesson

My violin lessons focus on building a strong technical base while encouraging expressive playing from the beginning. I guide students through posture alignment, correct bow hold, and relaxed left-hand positioning to prevent tension and build comfort. Each lesson starts with structured warm-ups that include open string bowing and slow scale practice to develop steady tone and intonation. I explain every step clearly in simple English so students understand both the movement and the purpose behind it. Good habits are introduced early to support long-term progress.

As students advance, we work on bow control, dynamic contrast, and smooth shifting between positions. I teach vibrato carefully, ensuring the motion feels natural and controlled. Repertoire is chosen based on each student’s level and musical taste, balancing technical growth with enjoyment. I also include rhythm training and ear development exercises to strengthen overall musicianship. Constructive feedback and clear practice plans help learners improve steadily between sessions.

My lessons aim to build both skill and confidence. Many students feel nervous about performance, and I guide them through preparation techniques that reduce anxiety. By combining structure, patience, and artistic encouragement, I help students grow into expressive and confident violinists.
