About Jayne

I have been teaching for over 30 years, in further and higher education and now run my own Sewing School. My specialist areas are dressmaking, design and pattern cutting. Having worked as a fashion designer in industry, I continue to work freelance, creating bridal and special occasion clothing, alongside running Stitch Studio Sewing School.

About the lesson

I approach teaching in a patient, creative and encouraging manner supported by a wealth of knowledge and technical skills. Firstly, I like to assess what you are looking to achieve and the skills you would like to develop. I have a hands-on approach to teaching with demonstrations, solutions and step by step explanations to help you take your skills to the next level and achieve professional standards. Tuition is available with Jayne face to face 1:1 or group classes at her purposely designed studio - Stitch Studio Sewing School in Challock, near Faversham, Ashford and Canterbury Kent or online live via zoom. Online classes, I have a two camera set to capture general demonstration and discussion and close ups of using machine and hand techniques, so you can easily see and learn. A recording of the lesson is also available, so you can go through this time and again to help you at home. You just need a mobile phone, laptop or iPad (any device with a good camera, microphone and wifi signal.). It's an ideal way of learning at a distance in the comfort of your home. Face to face 1:1 and group lessons are taught in a purposely designed and fully equipped studio. I teach all ages and all levels, from complete beginners to advanced dressmaking, design and pattern cutting. I specialise in a range of areas including perfect fit (pattern alterations), learn to sew, using a sewing machine, love your overlocker, working with jersey, womenswear, childrenswear, menswear, anything from pyjamas, skirts, dresses, tops, evening wear to jackets or coats. Alternatively create lovely unique craft items, for example bags, toys, bunting, cushions, roman blinds or a project of your choice. Learn about fabrics, using a pattern, seams, hems, darts, pockets, zips, seam finishing, interfacing and much more.

Face to face and group lessons are held at my studio near Faversham in Kent. TN25 4BQ, Groups are a maximum of six students, from £80 for one day workshops and weekly classes from £150 for 6 weeks.
