About Robert

- What kind of experience do you have?

Since graduating from Leeds College of Music with a BA(Hons) in Popular music in 2015, I have been a full time Session Drummer playing with various different function and original bands around the country at nationally recognised festivals. I am also proficient on other instruments such as Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboard, accordion and Tuned Percussion giving me a wider breadth of knowledge enabling me to understand music fully beyond just Drums.

I started teaching in September 2016 with Showcase Performance Company which includes individual tuition for Drum Kit, large group workshops for Drums, Guitar and music Technology. Since then I been teaching Drums and Percussion privately as well.

About the lesson

My name is Robert Purkiss and I am a Drummer, Percussionist and Teacher from Southampton. I have been playing drums from an early age, and have been playing professionally since the age of 12 years old for various bands in different styles of music.

I teach drum kit, drums and percussion.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

Grade 8 Guild Hall Drum Kit
Grade 8 ABRSM Tuned Percussion
BA(Honours) Popular Music - 2:1
GCSE Music - A
A Level Music - C
A Level Music Technology - C
Music Performance B-Tech - Distinction*

- How much do you charge?

I will offer a free introduction lesson, which gives the student the choice to proceed with lesson or not depending on how happy they are with what I can offer. No extra fees for travel, and for any additional students in each session I would charge an extra £5 per student an hour.

- Where do you teach?

I currently teach in various parts of Southampton on a daily basis. I am based in Bitterne Park but I travel as far as Fareham to teach every week. I teach from home and have also travelled to students' houses in the past. I would be willing to travel as far as Portsmouth and anywhere in between.

- When are you available?

From Monday to Friday I can teach from 5pm to 8pm. I can also do any time before 4pm on Saturdays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I currently teach ages 7 all the way up to 16. I have students already working up to a Grade 4 standard.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

For exams, I am using the Trinity Rock & Pop grade books. I feel that these books are appropriate for covering a wide range of styles and are very accessible.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

For any online tutoring, I will offer to teach over Skype.
