About Jorge
I started out as maybe every drums enthusiast with the thrill of what basically is hitting surfaces with sticks. That led me to study thoroughly at university, at other schools like GMartell and drum camps in the US where I studied the Moeller Technique directly with Jim Chapin.
My last gig was 11 years in a hotel with 4 theaters playing shows every night. Being born on the border with the US and being exposed to North American culture, plus living for more than a decade in the Mexican Caribbean, has given me the intercultural perspective between let's say (to put it over simplified) world rock, jazz and Latin culture. Which I think is very important to identify.

First of all I like to emphasize the drums from its most elemental origin, which is playfully. I imagine the first inhabitants of the planet beating stretched animal skins in order to have a dance.
Then I like to be clear about the student's intention to know the direction to take. It can be for entertainment, to play for example the favorite song of (whoever you like); or it may be the interest to professionalize. Or something in the middle maybe.
Within a framework of structure, I think there should be flexibility. Each person is different with different abilities and strengths. From there we begin to identify the best way to integrate the head and emotions. "Between the head and the heart, lies the perfect groove". Dave Weckl.
