About Andy

- What kind of experience do you have?

I've been teaching drums for 8 years in independent schools and over 10 years privately. I have over 12 years experience as a professional drummer performing all over the word and the UK at jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott's, the Pizza Express Jazz Club, the Vortex Jazz Club, and the 606 Club. I've also played live sessions for BBC Radio 3. I am a versatile musician, performing in a wide variety of styles and line-ups from Afro-cuban and modern jazz to gospel choirs and big bands.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I studied at the Royal Academy of Music and Leeds College of Music and have been tutored by some of the UK's most famous session drummers such as Ralph Salmins, Martin France and Chris Dagley. We're all life long learners and I still take lessons with the legendary Bob Armstrong and attend masterclasses whenever I can!

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Musicians Union.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I currently have about 40 students, all varied abilities and ages. Some are just enjoying rocking out, others are diligently working through their grades or refining their technique.

Drumming made simple is what I aim to deliver, and I always have a great time in delivering it! I can't wait to share my knowledge of this fabulous instrument with you and help make you the best drummer you can be.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I break down my teaching into five categories: Grooves, Reading, Technique, Timings, and Vocabulary. Every lesson has an equal measure of each so you keep all the bases covered. You'll learn how to play drums in the many styles that make up todays music, and touch upon all the things you'll need to master to become proficient on the drums such as rudiments, chart interpretation, fills, groove construction, time keeping, soloing, coordination... and much, much more.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have an MMus in Jazz Percussion from the Royal Academy of Music, and a BA (Hons) Jazz Studies from Leeds College of Music.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £40 / 1 hour lesson; and £25 / 30 minute lesson. Block bookings of 10 lessons have a 10% discount. Any distances over 15 minutes car journey from W7 have an additional £5 per lesson charge.

- Where do you teach?

I am available for tuition at my home in Hanwell, West London, or to travel anywhere in the Ealing Borough.

- When are you available?

Monday to Friday 10am - 7pm. Saturdays 10am - 2pm.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I begin students from as young as 8-years old and above. I teach all abilities from absolute beginner to advanced.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can teach from any of the Trinity London, Rock & Pop and Rock School syllabuses. I've entered over 60 exam candidates for Trinity London Grades 1-8 with a 100% pass rate (over 80% gaining merit or distinctions). I've also prepared students for concerts, GCSE and A-Level course work and scholarship auditions.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

At present the online aspect of my lessons is video and sheet music downloads from the Drumaddidle website to supplement home study. Skype lessons coming soon.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Go for it... the drums are meant to be enjoyed. Have no fear and make some noise.
